DISTRICT 1
Understanding Our District’s Diversity
District 1 is anything but one-size-fits-all. It’s made up of three distinct areas, each with its own character and challenges. As your city councillor for the past eight years, I’ve been deeply involved in all three:

Decarie Square Area
The area around David Lewis and Tommy Douglas, where I’ve consistently raised concerns about traffic on Vézina and the development around Décarie Square. (Yes, the no-parking signs are frustrating—but that decision lies with Montreal but making some progress)
Macdonald : Dupuis to Queen Mary (Aumont)
The high-rises along Macdonald Road, where renters and landlords each face unique issues and priorities.
CSL Road: Alpine to Walkley
The Côte Saint-Luc Road corridor, which has a very different demographic profile and its own set of community needs.
Each area is a world unto itself, and my role has been to navigate that complexity with care and commitment. I’m here to ensure that every corner of our district is understood, respected, and well represented.

Traffic issues: Throughout my mandate and this campaign, I have addressed the traffic issues on Vezina. Like many of you, I take this route to work every day. We are all inconvenienced by this standstill traffic on Vezina. While some have suggested that taking legal action against the City of Montreal might be an option, I am here to set the record straight. Every single day tens of thousands of cars form the west end cross Decarie boulevard most notably through Van Horne and Vezina. And every single day District 1 is affected by the congestion. An already bad situation will only be worsened by future development targeted for the area in the Namur-De la Savane/Hippodrome plan. FINDING SOLUTIONS Throughout my mandate I identified ways to correct this problem but all the solutions lie with Montreal, starting with •Prohibiting parking on the south side of Vezina during rush hours. •Prohibiting the Left turn from the Coolbrook exit. •Lengthening the lights at Decarie for cars going north •Imposing the proper markings at the Coolbrook exit from the Decarie Square “DON’T BLOCK THE BOX” I met with the Mayor and councillors for CDN/NDG and I contacted the owners of Decarie Square and suggested to have overnight parking for Vezina residents whose cars are parked on the south side of Vezina. A plan that many Montreal residents did not buy into unfortunatly. The recent decision by Decarie Square to allow the residents of Vezina to park there overnight to attempt to free up a lane of traffic was made because of the work and ideas I bring forward where I can potentially influence parties.
